We met the way many couples do these days…by swiping right. Two people looking for “the one”. The one who is honest, who is loyal, who wants to experience all this life has to offer, and of course, the one who keeps a sense of humour and a kind heart.

We met at Deer Lake for our first date. Our walk around the lake just didn’t last long enough so we followed it up with a Starbucks coffee (where we learned we had the same coffee order - a black Americano). And there we sat and talked for hours.

December 20, 2022. We were in the middle of a major snow storm (major for Vancouver, okay?) Airports weren’t operational, all flights were cancelled. We were supposed to be on a flight to Toronto the next day.
December 21, 2022. Miraculously, we made it out of Vancouver on the very first flight that wasn’t cancelled. One of us was relieved that we wouldn’t miss our dinner reservation at Planta.. and one of us was relieved that he wouldn’t have to come up with a brand new plan for his proposal.
December 22, 2022. The day Nick proposed. We spent the day downtown Toronto. We did a bit of shopping, went to a Maple Leafs game, had a lovely dinner at Planta, and settled into the hotel for the rest of the night with a movie and a glass of wine. The proposal didn’t happen at the game on the jumbo-tron, or at the busy restaurant with a crowd of people, but in the way that was completely perfect for us. Alone in our hotel room - just us & a beautiful view. That’s where we became fiancés!
